We had a blast designing and fabricating this project for our client. The goal was simple....puzzle pieces of all shapes and sizes that could be hung in any direction or any angle.
By placing four built-in keyhole supports on each piece....they could be placed anywhere by themselves or interlocked together.
The general scale of these pieces ranged from 16" all the way up to 36". They were all open pieces (no end or border pieces). Our client wanted them to always appear to be unfinished and ready for more.
We also made these pieces in varying thickness.
This way when they are interlocked, the different depths of each piece would add to the depth and overall look.
The finished project came out great...with puzzle pieces of all colors.

The 3D cutouts are the shell, starfish and bubbles. The mirror cutout is, of course, the mermaid.
Our client received these components loose and took care of the finishing and placement of the components.
Here are the pieces dry fitted for final design approval prior to shipping.
And finally here is a client submitted photo showing off the final product.

The ability for you to use us as your own personal custom fabrication shop is by far the greatest advantage to working with us.
Projects like this usually begin with a sketch...it doesn't have to be a professional drawing. We can work with a sketch and a general idea of what you want.
We received this particular sketch from our client.
We also received an idea on what the project was...the approximate size of the piece and the desired material.
The more information you can relay to us the better...it just makes the design work faster and more accurate.
With the information in hand....we create spec drawings and make adjustments as needed to finalize the project.
This project contained finishing grooves...which makes the finishing process so much easier.
The cutouts themselves were all loose (not attached)....our client wanted to take care of the final placement of the components.
Here are the pieces in place (but not glued)...looks wonderful :)

These components are the entire sign....everything else is done by the artist. The main base is a one-piece panel with background letters built in.
Duplicates of each letter are made 1/16" smaller than the base. This will create a background for each letter.
The actual construction of the sign is pretty much done with just the base and letters. The remainder of the sign is painting and artwork....a very simple project from our end :).

We usually create these advanced cutouts for the commercial industry but they are certainly available to everyone.
There are many ways to create these types of cutouts...it really depends on a lot of things. This particular project had us creating three separate cutouts...a cloud, moon and baby elephant. We also added finishing grooves to the elephant to make the finish much easier.
You can see how the cloud and moon have recessed areas...these recessed areas are to seat the next cutout in perfect alignment and hold it in place for proper securing.
So now the moon is exactly where it needs to be.
Prior to placement would be the finishing of course....but imagine if the moon was already secure. Painting the cloud now would be much harder...and the moon. The components were all painted prior to assembly...you can imagine how easier it was to create this piece.
And now you have the elephant in place...perfectly aligned and exactly where it needs to be.
The multi-level aspect of this type of cutout is really nice...it is a true three dimensional piece producing nice shadows and depth.
Here you go....all painted, glittered and assembled.
You can see how this is a huge step up from your standard cutout.

If the cutout you need is not in our shop.....just let us know and we'll create just about any shape or design you need.

These kids are knighted out of elementary school onto the next grade school building. They each personalize their own shield which we provide....it is an honor to take part in this ceremony.
It is also really cool to see what these kids turn our blank shields into :)

Though we often are the ones that design and create fabrication drawings...this particular project was for a client that provide us with STL files of the components needed.
We work with commercial clients quite a bit...and are very familiar with the process when it comes to design and specification drawings.
Precise dimensions are critical for components like these. But don't worry...if you do not have the expertise to create proper fabrication drawings...we do.
This project has been ongoing for quite some time....but take a look at how nice these light panels look.
